All trainings are scheduled on Thursdays.

Training Description

Session 1 - Thursday, January 19, 2023

Relationships and Attachment

This module will explore the meaning of attachment. Participants will discover how secure attachments to caregivers are crucial for development. Participants will connect support for secure attachments to the CLASS dimensions. Participants will acquire strategies for that support attachment. Intentional interactions will raise the level of quality care in the classroom.

Learning outcomes:

•Participants will define attachment

•Participants will be able to explain how healthy attachments connect to CLASS dimensions Participants will identify a strategy for building healthy relationships

Session 2 - Thursday, February 2, 2023

Responsive Caregiving

This module will explore the concept of responsive caregiving and steps in the responsive process. Quality interactions are at the heart of responsive caregiving. Responsive Caregiving involves the warmth and support of caring adults. Children gain a strong base for development and learning in the physical, cognitive, language and social- emotional domains. Participants will discover strategies to increase or create nurturing relationships in their classrooms.

Learning outcomes:

• Participants will describe the responsive process in responsive caregiving.

• Participants will define responsive caregiving.

• Participants will identify one way that responsive caregiving supports quality interactions.

Session 3 - Thursday, February 16, 2023

Supporting Social and Emotional Development

This module will explore the importance of intentional adult-child interactions for the support of children’s social and emotional development. Participants will learn about strategies for guiding behavior and responding to challenging behavior. Participants will explore the Florida Birth to Five Standards and design activities for their age group. Participants will incorporate CLASS indicators in the planned activities. Participants will explore strategies for addressing challenging behaviors by changing the environment of the classroom.

Learning outcomes:

• Participants will identify one way to support social and emotional development through intentional interactions.

• Participants will describe a response to a challenging behavior through intentional interactions.

Session 4 - Thursday, March 2, 2023

Routines

This module will explore the importance of care routines. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on various routines such as feeding, napping, handwashing. Care routines will be defined and discussion will include strategies for implementation in the classroom. The course will also explore how CLASS dimensions are supported through intentional routines. Participants will be asked to explain how they will approach routines differently based on the information in this modules.

Learning outcomes:

• Participants will identify care routines that are a major part of the curriculum for children under the age of three.

• Participants will be able to identify strategies to use in the classroom that provide one on one opportunities for the teacher and child during care routines.

• Participants will be able to name intentional internal interactions with children during routines that provide children the opportunity to explore, develop skills and deepen relationships with caregivers.

Session 5 - Thursday, March 16, 2023

Maximizing Mealtimes

This module explores the importance of individualization during feeding routines as well as how cultural messages are communicated to children during feeding routines. The module will explore how CLASS dimensions are supported when preferences for independence and interdependence are recognized. Participants will discover strategies for holding an infant during feedings, the use of furniture and placement of supplies used during feeding. Discussion of CLASS dimension connections to feeding routines will occur. Responding to infant’s cues and meeting their needs will also be explored.

Learning outcomes:

• Participants will describe the importance of an individualized feeding routine.

• Participants will identify oat least one way to support CLASS dimensions during transitions.

Session 6 - Thursday, March 30, 2023

Diapering with Intentional Interactions

Routines are at the heart of infant and toddler care. Routines provide opportunities to build relationships with each child while providing individual care. Routines provide learning opportunities for the child to participate. Strategies for supporting individualized care and building relationships with children will be explored. Strategies for skill building with regard to respectful diapering will be examined.

Learning outcomes:

• Participants will learn strategies that will support individualized routines.

• Participants will develop I Love You Rituals and strategies for implementing respectful diapering.

• Participants will be able to verbalize the CLASS dimensions that relate to respectful diapering/ toileting.

Session 7 - Thursday, April 13 , 2023

Language Development

This module will explore language developmental milestones for young infants, mobile infants and toddlers. Strategies will be discussed that support language development. Participants will learn how to include children in their own learning through language. Conversation modeling and strategies for implementing language modeling with infant and toddlers will be explored. Feedback, expansion/ elaboration and scaffolding are also topics for discussion.

Learning outcomes:

• Participants will explore what language looks like for young infants, mobile infants and toddlers.

• Participants will explore language modeling, feedback and scaffolding and strategies for implementing these practices into their classrooms based upon CLASS dimensions.

Session 8 - Thursday, April 27, 2023

Cognitive Development

This module will look at the milestones of young infants, mobile infants and toddler. Adult interactions support the cognitive development of infants and toddlers. Participants will define cognitive development. Discussions will occur about letting infants and toddlers direct their own learning and how the participants feel about this. The components that are necessary to facilitate the learning of infant and toddlers will also be included. Activities are centered around cognitive development, how children think, how they see the world and they use what they learn. Supporting Cognitive development through verbal interactions, physical interactions, flexibility and supporting independence will also be explored.

Learning outcomes:

• Participants will define cognitive development.

• Participants will identify developmental milestones for young infants, mobile infants, and toddlers.

• Participants will identify the ways that intentional interactions support play, exploration and learning.

Session 9 - Thursday, May 11, 2023

Indoor Play

This module will explore the necessary components of an indoor play area environment. We will discuss examples of appropriate activities for infants and toddlers. We will use the Florida Learning Standards to create activities for infants and toddlers. Participants will think about the importance of toys and equipment for an indoor infant and toddler environment. We will also evaluate features that are hazardous or dangerous in an indoor environment. Learners will evaluate activities that could be incorporated into their classrooms immediately that would make it inviting and welcoming.

Learning outcomes:

• Participants will identify characteristics of and effective indoor learning environment.

• Participants will connect the Early Learning Standards to activities created in the session and discuss their purpose and importance.

Session 10 - Thursday, May 25, 2023

Outdoor Play

Learners will explore the licensing regulations for outdoor learning environments. Participants will make connections to the Florida Early Learning Standards. Discussion of the benefits of outdoor play and the characteristics of an effective outdoor play are a part of this session. The challenges of outdoor play with infants and toddlers will also be explored .Intentional interactions and strategies for engaging outdoors with infants and toddlers will also be discussed.

Learning outcomes:

• Participants will be able to identify the characteristics of and effective outdoor play area.

• Participants will review the Florida Early Standards and make connections to activities in their lesson plans.

Assessment Strategies

A variety of assessment strategies will be conducted throughout and after completion of the training to ensure the knowledge and skills are obtained. Some assessment strategies include:

• Gains survey/pre-post assessment

• Training poll

• Reaction responses

• Small group discussion/presentation

• Call and response

• Chat response

• Question/answer posts

• Completed Implementation Plan with successful documents submitted

The following are technology requirements for this training. You may need some or all items listed

• Internet connection

• Computer PC, Laptop, tablet with built in camera and sound capabilities or a web camera

• Zoom App downloaded to devices (smartphone, tablet, mac)

Training Expectations

1. Conduct yourself in a professional way:

• Dress appropriately

• Refrain from drinking alcohol, smoking or vaping

• Consider background distractions

2. Be present:

• Attend whole training start to finish

• Video camera should be on

• Sign in using the chat box

3. Participate throughout the trainings:

• Communicate using the chat box

• Speak during large group discussions

• Interact during breakout sessions

• Respond to verbal call outs

4. Complete all required documents:

• Implementation plan - if applicable

• Pre/post training evaluation - if applicable

• Post gains survey/assessment - survey/assessment will be emailed after verification of attendance and participation

If a survey is not submitted and completed in its entirety this will affect applicable stipends, receipt of a certificate of completion (in-service hours) or CEU certificate.

Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas, Inc. policies

• The training will not be accessible 10 minutes after the training start time

• Complete participation is required during the training. If you are driving it is not possible for you to participate safely and you will be removed from the training.

• If a participant leaves the Zoom training session prior to the end of the training, certificate of completion or CEU credit will not be awarded

• All Zoom trainings will be recorded.

• Stipend or materials offered will only be available for School Readiness/VPK contracted sites.

• Stipends (if applicable) can take up to eight(8) weeks after the completion of training before payment is made to participants.

In-Service Training Hours - 20

Certificate of completion (in-service hours) will only be awarded if the following items are completed by the participant:

• Attended scheduled training dates

• Meeting all training expectations (see above)

• Submission of the mandatory post assessment sent after the training

• Achieving an 60% or higher on the post assessment

If these items are not met, participants may be offered a certificate of attendance with no in-service hours.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) – 2.0 Unit is equivalent to 20 continuing education hours

ELC is authorized by IACET to offer CEUs for this training.

Participants can ONLY request CEU's during on-line registration.

Registrants requesting CEU's will be required to submit by email a government or employer issued ID at registration. A personal photo will not be accepted.

CEU certificates will only be awarded if the following items are completed by the participant:

• Attended ALL scheduled training dates

• Meeting all training expectations (see above)

• Submission of the mandatory post assessment sent after the training

• Achieving an 80% or higher on the post assessment

If these items are not met, participants may be offered a certificate of completion (in-service hours) or certificate of attendance (no in-service hours).

CEU’s or formal education (college courses) are required to renew a Florida Staff Credential. This includes credentials earned through the Apprenticeship Program at Pinellas Technical College. Please note that the Apprenticeship program offers a Florida Staff Credential and not a CDA.
